There’s something I’m puzzled by: If Contessa was trying to murder her children because of the possibility they may betray her, why lug around the one that did betray her? Is it some limitation of her powers, or simply hanging on to a hostage in case she can’t get away? My abyssal-fu isn’t good enough to tell me if it’s my first guess, and we’ll probably see later if it’s something else.

Perhaps it’s “snniff, I’m SO PROUD of him, the only one to actually DO it-“
I imagine it’s a contingency plan. “Well, shit. You found us. Which one of us is really who? Do you care to take that chance?”
Or simply to keep him alive until she no longer needs him for ‘face drinking’. Then, dead he shall be.
